The NCAA DI women's swimming & diving championships were held this past weekend at Ohio State University. What a show. History was rewritten from the first evening, when Arizona broke the American record in the 200 free relay (1:26.90) in the first event at finals. That was followed by Caroline Burckle breaking Janet Evan's NCAA record in the 500 free with a 4:33.60. This is fast swimming. (results)
March 18 AGAIN, and again, and again March: Another chance for Empire athletes to shine, and we did. This time, it was at Wesleyan University in CT. Our team finished 3rd in the overall standings. As you can see below, it was a close race for top 3, and we destroyed the rest of the field.
Emperors (boys) finished a close 2nd, led by seniors Robert Eyckmans and Blake Preston who finished 2/3 in the point standings. The Empresses (girls) took 3rd with Stacey Rogers as our top point scorer at 7th overall. Team records have been shattered again and will be updated today!
Commander! Did you check the NCAA D3 results? Amanda Nicholson (Jr @ Williams) won the 400 IM (4:20.31) and set a new NCAA Division 3 record! Note - We're still searching for results from the CT open, if you find them please share! March 14 The Constitution State Yesterday, while our swimmers traveled to Connecticut, it was an Empire swimmer from Connecticut turning heads. Amy Minowitz, a 2008 graduate (and current freshman @ Emory University) went 5:02 in the 500 yesterday, TWICE!, at NCAA DIII nationals. Check out the results - here - Jaime Straub swam a 5:01 in prelims, Amanda Nicholson went 2:04 in the 200 IM, and Crissy Haley 2:07. At the CT Senior Open, we had men's 1000, women's 1650 and the 800 free relays last evening.
March 13 3 things 1 The Sunkissed flight list is up on the Sunkissed page. 2 Info for the CT Senior Open meet is available from the home page. Please note that we will need to provide timers. Let Brian & Ilan know when you can assist. (thanks!) 3 Good press. March 10 Photo hunt Looking for some rotation on the front page of our web site. February 19 Region i champs
Hail to the victors!
Our Empire boys put on an impressive display of speed, depth
and the ability to swim fast times without shaving.
They outscored every other men's team and would have taken
2nd in the combined category. But, of course,
the Empire girls made a big impact as well. They were
stronger each day and climbed up to a second place finish in
the women's race. Their success, along with the boys
dominance helped capture the team trophy - and exposed a new
area of the country to the power of Empire Swimming.
Nice job all. February 12 Upcoming metro Meets SR Mets - Ilan has decided that the team will swim on SUNDAY 2/24.
SILVER CHAMPS - we will
be attending Silver championships. Swimmers from ALL
GROUPS who qualify will be entered in this meet. JOs - As the Sunkissed meet falls only days after the meet, swimmers who plan to go to Charlotte will skip JOs in preparation for the better meet. February 4 Parking It is absolutely critical that we pay more attention to how we handle our cars at Hackley. Nobody at any time on any day should be parking in front of the pool building or the athletic building across the street. Each evening it is busy up there! Many activities are finishing around the same time that we are arriving and the traffic outside these buildings is an issue. Please help us control the situation instead of adding to it. It is expected that Empire cars be parked in the lower lot. Please do not park your cars on the side of the road. Our continued use of the Hackley facility is critical to the future of Empire Swimming. At this time, the parking situation is inhibiting our ability to secure the Hackley pool for the 2008-2009 season. We need your cooperation, and would appreciate having ALL of us use the lower parking lot only. January 29 The List Gets Longer
2 more swimmers qualified
for the 2008 Sectional meet - Monica Poleway and Maggie
D'Arcy both swam faster in finals at the Elite Meet and made
their cuts in the 200 backstroke. Yes! February Calendar is posted. Later this month we'll see some changes as we move to our Spring Schedule. The M'ville practices on Monday & Friday will be able to start @ 6:30, and the Hackley practices will move back to the 4:30-8:00 slot. Check the calendar (link) for dates of these switches. The TEAM RECORDS are updated to include the meets at GCIT and Yale. Results will be up on our site. February Meets - details on the Meet Calendar (link)

November 30 Notes
November 29 Gael 8 & Under Update The meet on Sunday 12/2 is not going to be long. The host team has allowed us to add a 4th event to our entries. The Rockets, Torpedoes and Thunder coaches have adjusted accordingly and the new, updated entry is posted on the meet calendar (link) November 26 December The December calendar is posted on the main page (link). We will have printed copies for you - ask your coaches! Many people received their Swim-For-Empire prizes last week! Please bring in your donations - we want you to get your gear before the December meets. November 20 We're number 9... In the USA! Still #1 in Metro - by over 20,000 points and we move up to 4th in the Eastern Zone after our performances at the meets last weekend. We're getting ready for our first peak performance meet in December. Looking forward to climbing even higher. Keep your eyes on the calendar! (link) Many changes over this Thanksgiving weekend. November 13 We're number 1 Congratulations! Empire ranks 1st in METRO in USA Swimming's virtual club championships. (link) This ranking compares our swimmers against all other clubs in the country, the region (Eastern Zone) and our local area (Metro). Empire is the top team in Metro, number 5 in the East and we're 13th in the entire USA. Nice work. Jackets The jackets are here! Most were delivered on Saturday. If you ordered one, please pick it up from your coaches at practice. We'll be making a 2nd order - if you're interested click this link (here) for the info. Note the order date - please order before 11.26 Swim For Empire Thank you to all who have donated. We have the prize items and will begin sorting them next week so you can have them before our December meets. If you haven't yet, PLEASE BRING IN YOUR DONATION! If you're waiting for some stragglers - Don't! You can always add to your total. Prize packages will be adjusted accordingly.
November 9 Darien meet We have 2 timers, still need 2 more. Please speak to Brian tonight or tomorrow morning if you are willing to help us on Sunday. November 7 Darien meet We have a scheduled warm up time of 12:45-1:00. MAKE SURE YOU ARE THERE BY 12:30! The coaches need to check in all swimmers at the start of warm up and, since we only have the pool for 15 min, coming late means you a) might miss the warm up or b) might be scratched from the competition. Again, it's very important to be ON TIME for warm up and we're grateful for your attention to this. ALSO - we will need to provide 4 timers for the duration of the meet. If you are interested, please email us and/or speak to Brian at practice. DISTANCE MEET 1:00pm warm up / 2:00 pm start! They are planning to split the session - 1st 8 heats (4 girls + 4 boys) would begin at 2:00, then a short warm up and the remaining heats would start at 5pm. We'll speak to the swimmers who are near that cut off. 1650 is run FASTEST to SLOWEST, alternating 1 girls heat followed by 1 boys heat. Although it does not say so in the meet information, often 1650 swimmers need to provide their own timer. Parents should plan on being there to help when their swimmer is competing. November 6 Thanks! ...To all of you who volunteered this past weekend. We had a very successful meet, involving 17 teams, almost 850 swimmers and 3,437 swims! (wow) Even with a packed house, it ran smoothly and the EMPIRE shirts looked great. Thanks also, to all of you who helped keep the swimmers warm during our exciting fire drill on Sunday morning. Our swimmers continue to rewrite the records. We continue to update those, check the page (link) and congratulate our top performers.
November 2 Welcome! Colin Lynch Natlo was born right at the start of practice this afternoon. Congratulations to Bill, Tara and Hannah. November 1 Notes Directions to Felix Festa are posted on our directions page (link) The November calendar is posted (link). Remember the time change for session III this Saturday. Jackets should be delivered next week! Still need volunteers for this weekend. All volunteers should check in with Shari Rogers at the admission door when you arrive, where you will receive an EMPIRE t-shirt! Thanks for your help! In addition, we will need water & drinks for the timers, officials, coaches and meet staff. Donations can be brought to the meet.
October 30 MEET Time CHANGE Session III (that's 11-12 & open) on Saturday will begin 1 hour earlier. The new time is 3:00 warm up, 4:00 start. You should realize this will give you TWO extra hours of sleep that night! The other, of course, is for daylight savings. Don't forget to set your clocks back or you'll be extra early for Sunday. October 26 next WEEKEND: eMPIRE HOSTS ITS FIRST MEET We are ready. Almost. We need help from EMPIRE parents to make this meet run efficiently. Empire is co-hosting this meet with the New York Sharks. We are responsible for filling these positions on Saturday, Sharks parents will handle the tasks on Sunday. We'll be hosting only 2 meets this year, and we are grateful for your help. Each volunteer aids in providing an opportunity for all of the swimmers to perform at their best! Thanks in advance for your time. Please email us (coach@empireswimming.com) to let us know where/when you'll be able to help. The following is a list of volunteer positions we'll need to fill. (session 1 = 9/10 and 13/14, session 2 = 8&u, session 3 = 11/12 and open)
The more the merrier! Exceeding the number of necessary volunteers means we can rotate the responsibilities, giving everyone a chance to participate and some time to relax. THANKS AGAIN. October 22 Team directory We are in the process of establishing an Empire Directory for all of our families. This directory will be distributed on a hard copy basis only and will include contact information that you have provided to us. If, for any reason, you do not want your contact information listed in the directory, please email (Coach@empireswimming.com) to have your listing removed. Please provide this notice by October 31, so that we can distribute directories by early November. Also, if you have any updated contact information since the beginning of the season, please provide that as well. Lancaster hotel info We have confirmation that Empire will be swimming in the TYR Cup in Lancaster, PA.

October 15 Historic Weekend Empire swimmers age 9 & older competed at our first meet of the season this past weekend. It was our 1st meet in a yards pool, so bring on team records! (here) Not every record was set by default! We set 5 pool records! Not bad for early October:
Here's a summary of the team records set & broken in the first 4 events of the weekend:
October 12 PrActices cancelled! Quite a storm on Thursday night! Manhattanville lost power to the athletic building and it's out as of 1:15pm Friday. The pool will not be operational by this evening so no Rockets or XCel practice tonight. The Hackley pool is on the mend after Thursday night's mud-flood. However, water clarity is still an issue. Due to this, we will cancel all practices this afternoon AND the Rockets/Torpedoes practice Saturday morning. Facility staff at both locations are working hard to tackle these issues, and we expect to be running our full schedule on Monday. ANY CHANGES TO MONDAY WILL BE POSTED ON THE WEB SITE. Be sure to check before you leave the house! October 8 THe Letter A Well, it sure is nice to have friends drop by and visit. Over the past 9 days we've welcomed four college swimmers who have come home for a quick break and climbed the Hackley stairs to train with our Xtreme group. Can you name all 4? A_ _ _ _ _, A_ _ _ _ _, A_ _ and A _ _. October 6 Most IMpressive... click Asked & Answered Thanks to all who attended the parents meeting this morning. We had some good questions - here are a few places for more answers:
October 2 This is a stick up! Car Magnets! We've got 'em. Pick up yours at practice. They will be available at both pools. After we hand out one per family you can purchase additional magnets. Just make sure you don't have a plastic bumper (sigh) * side note - M'ville parents - please make sure to use your green parking pass. If you do not have one, see Brian or John. Suits & Sweats We are working on getting things for you to try on. This should happen within a week. Our vendor has just finished moving to a new location, we appreciate your patience. FOR THE FIRST MEETS -
PLEASE WEAR A NIKE SUIT. We hope to have all the Empire team suits &
gear in your hands by the November meets. The JACKETS have been at Hackley for sizing and will be traveling with Brian to Manhattanville this week. ALSO, look for an October calendar coming to the Empire site very soon. October 1 Update The jacket order form has
been updated with the added feature of having your name(s) embroidered on
the jackets. If you have already ordered, contact Marc at Eagle Eye: We will also extend the order date through this coming weekend. September 27
Gear Note: all orders for the above items are to be made through the vendors. Have questions? Ask any of the coaches. Contact the vendors directly to order anything. As of this afternoon we will have Empire jackets at Hackley to try on for sizing. They will be there on Saturday to allow all groups a chance to see the samples. All swimmers need to wear Empire clothing to swim meets. The new t-shirt is available from Gulbenkien separately or as part of the team suit package. The Empire shirts we handed out in June are available for purchase at Hackley for $10. September 26 Lookin' GOod The EMPIRE team suit will

having a good seat at the swim meet? Do you want to be where the action is?
Come on down on deck and learn how to be an official. You will be part of an
elite group of volunteers. For information please email: September 11 Meet schedule The meet schedule is posted. The schedule is subject to change, but represents a fairly accurate plan for our meets from October, 2007 through April, 2008. Decisions will be made regarding which groups and swimmers will attend certain meets. THE COACHES WILL DECIDE WHO SWIMS & WHICH EVENTS WILL BE ENTERED. When you look at the "meet info" you will see ALL of the information published by the meet host. Parents and swimmers should never contact a meet host directly regarding entries. All of this will be done for you. Questions should come to the EMPIRE coaching staff. What you DO want to review is session dates & times, event order and directions. We will be publishing a MEET SCHEDULE on each of the group pages. These mini-schedules will give the same information, but will only include the meets for the specific group. September 7 It BEGINS!
