January Practice Time Changes

Please note the following minor change to the January practice calendar:
On January 25, 27 and 30th, Xcel Team will be practicing at Ardsley Middle School from 4:30 - 6:00 PM.
The Lightning Team will practice at The Hackley School from 6:30 to 8:00 PM on January 25th, 27th, and 30th.
Greenwich 8&U Meet Warm Up Change

The warm up time for this weekend's Greenwich YMCA 8 & Under Meet has been changed.
Warm-ups will now begin at 1:00 PM, with a 2:00 PM start.
We are also required by the host team to provide three volunteer timers. Please let Inga know as soon as possible if you can time at this meet. Timing is a great way to get involved and see the action up close!
New Records Set at Jump Start and Winter Frost Meets!

Marie Ueda broke two of her own records at the Patriot Winter Frost Meet last weekend! She lowered her record time in the 8 & Under 50 Breast time to 41.83, and set the new 8 & U 100 Fly record time at 1:44.71.
Meanwhile, at the January Jump Start meet in North Carolina, Bebe Thompson also broke two team records. Bebe set the new Women 13-14 1650 Freestyle record at 17:44.53, and now also owns the team record for the 13-14 Butterfly at 2:10.66.
Jared Copeland also claimed ownership of a new team record when he set the new bar for the Men 9-10 100 Butterfly at 1:11.45 at the Jump Start Meet.
Congratulations to all of our Empire swimmers, who did an amazing job at last weekend's meets!

There is a block of rooms being held at the Holiday Inn Schenectady for those attending the Region 1 Championship Meet at Union College February 17-20. The contracted rate is for 3 nights at $109.95 per night for both King and Double/Double rooms. To reserve a room from the block, you must call the hotel directly and ask for the Empire Swimming Team Group Block:

The cutoff date for this block is 1/23/12 and guaranteed reservations may be cancelled up to 24 hours prior to arrival. Parent volunteers are in the process of negotiating a hospitality package (similar to the meal plan at MIT) for swimmer's meals. Empire swimmers placed high in numerous final events, and achieved far too many best times to mention (22 pages worth!) There were nine team records set at this meet: Marie Ueda broke her own 8&U 50 breast record with a time of 42.16, Abhi Kumar set a new 9-10 100 fly record of 1:14.67, Kasia Malendowicz set new records in both the 11-12 100 free (54.00) and 50 fly (27.54), Ali McNamara set a new 13-14 record in the 1650 free (17:44.79), and her brother Shane McNamara broke his own record in the Open 100 breast with a new time of 57.60. Bebe Thompson raised the bar on three 13-14 events:1000 free (10:30.69), 200 IM (2:10.58) and 400 IM (4:33.45).
